The “Aces of Dixieland ” were formed back in 1985, by two musicians from two experienced bands. Buck LaCombe, and his “Notables” and Denis Cabana’s “Red Diamond Jazz Band” Both of which worked extensively in the music business.
The name “Aces of Dixieland” was adopted by the band, and is now registered to Denis Cabana.
The “Aces” were so busy at one time that it was not unusual to have three engagements on the same day, i.e. The Montreal Jazz Fest, a live TV program, and a gig at a community function.
They also played for VIA rail in 1992, from one end of Canada to the other as a promotion for their new tourist train! As well, many Club Med gigs!
The Jazz Fest was a gig that lasted at least fourteen years, and was great fun for us as well as for our enthusiastic supporters! There has been some changes to the bands lineup, with the passing of Buck LacCombe. However, the band is still swinging away, with Johnny Mariano, still on Trumpet, Denis Cabana, still on Trombone & vocals! Ray Seguin plays the Banjo & we have Matt Cabana still doing our Bass work.
